Welcome to Simba International School

SINCE 1981

Set in its beautiful garden surroundings, Simba School has established a reputation for being one of the finest independent private schools in Zambia, with an impressive academic tradition.  Situated on Airport Road, in the Copperbelt city of Ndola. Simba is easily accessible to the residents of Ndola, Luanshya and Kitwe, from whom the majority of our student population is drawn.  With our boarding facilities at Tau House and our excellent reputation, many of our secondary school students are from Lusaka and its surrounding areas.

Our School is recognised nationally for providing educational leadership, sharing a sense of purpose among staff, students, parents and the community, and establishing an environment that conveys the message that all students can enjoy the challenge and responsibilities that come with learning.  We aim to develop in each child an enquiring mind and a thirst for knowledge;  to equip each child with the necessary skills of oracy, literacy and numeracy; to ensure  that each child reaches his/her potential and becomes a valued member of society; to achieve and maintain a high standard in all aspects of the children’s work and behavior; and to create a happy,  secure environment in which each child is able to develop self confidence and social competence.

Simba School is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Zambia, an organisation that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities inherent in proprietary school operation.

Simba takes a leading role in providing inter school competitions and festivals in a number of sports, in the Arts and in Science. Whilst recognising the importance of academic progress and achievement, we aim to offer every student the opportunity to fulfil his/her physical, creative and cultural potential, which can often lead to a rewarding career on its own.

An independent, non-profit-making organisation.  Simba International School was founded in 1981, in response to parent’s requests for a new and innovative approach to their children’s education.  It was intended to provide a quality education to children of all races, colours and creeds.  That focus has never changed.  Today Simba has its own Primary and  Secondary Schools, Sixth form and boarding house offering a high quality British-based international education to over 500 students.  From pre-school to I.G.C.S.E. and A-levels, Simba School provides a firm academic foundation, underlying a broad and well-rounded curriculum.  It instills in its pupil a love of learning, and a strong sense of community.

CURRICULUM

The Simba Primary School Curriculum is wide-ranging and aims, not only to provide children with sound academic training, but to develop strong social skills and a well-rounded character.  A coordinated early years and primary education at Simba prepares your child for success in Secondary School.  Simba’s dynamic and creative teachers help maximize student participation and performance.

Our goal is to develop independent students, who are equipped able to take the next steps along their educational path.

The core curriculum is British based and is built around the Cambridge International Primary Curriculum, but also incorporated material drawn from private schools in the Southern African region. It covers the basics of reading, writing, mathematics and environmental studies (including history, geography, science and personal social health religious education - PSHRE).  Specialist teachers also provide high quality tuition in the fields of computers, French, physical education, movement, music and singing, library studies and Design Technology (food science and needlework).

Homework is giving using the Google Classroom platform and all students at Simba Primary are able to interact with teachers; parents are also able to keep track of their child’s progress.

Children are guided and encouraged to develop their personal and social skills through dedicated lessons. Weekly themes explore virtues and qualities such as respect, diversity and friendship.

Our teachers employ a variety of learning strategies which include both modern classroom teaching methods, study trips, enrichment, social activities and reward systems.  Extra instruction time and internal tutoring are also available for students requiring such assistance.

The Primary School is divided into three learning brackets which are individually structured to meet the requirements of the children within them.  These are : Early Years (Prep 2 and Prep 3),  Lower Primary  (Grade One, Grade Two and  Grade Three),  and Upper Primary Grade Four, Grade Five and Grade Six).

FACULTY

Our greatest asset is our exceptionally dedicated and creative teaching staff.  Working within our established curriculum guidelines, each is free to bring his or her special interests and abilities to the classroom.  Simba teachers are well qualified and strive to instil the value of honesty, morality, generosity, hard work and justice.  Their enthusiasm for teaching, dedication to learning, and sincere desire to help each child in their care, keeps our students challenged and motivated throughout their school careers.
