The Duke of Edinburgh's International Youth Award is an integral part of the school's extra-curricular programme and it is presently co-ordinated and supervised by Mr John Barrie, the Design and Technology teacher. Simba students are encouraged to pursue the award enthusiastically as the school believes it offers scope for personality development and individual discipline in a diverse range of activities. The award at Simba is structured to meet the demands of the IYA which requires students to pursue specific disciplines within sport, community service and practical skills for a specific period of time. An expedition is also required if a student is to complete each one of the three levels that the IYA offers. At Simba, many students have earned the Bronze Award, while a persevering few have worked hard towards achieving the much-coveted Gold Standard. |
